Patient safety from the start! Be a part of the World Patient Safety Day celebration on 17 September 2025.
Each year, on September 17, World Patient Safety Day brings global attention to a shared goal: making healthcare safer for everyone. This year, the focus is on those who need protection the most - newborns and children. With the theme “Safe care for every newborn and every child” and the slogan, “Patient safety from the start!”, the campaign reminds us that safe care should begin at life’s first moments.
Newborns and children are more vulnerable to harm when receiving medical care; even simple errors can have serious consequences at this early stage of life. According to the WHO, adverse events involving newborns and children during the receipt of medical care occur across all care settings, with higher risks in intensive care units. That’s why the World Health Organization (WHO) is calling for stronger efforts to prevent avoidable harm in early life. Thus, it is important to raise awareness on proper medical practices and ensure clean, safe, and well-organized care environments for the safety of the most vulnerable.
As a dedicated collaborator, SARAYA has created a poster that will help raise awareness of this day in your facilities. The poster is available for download below.
- Raise global awareness of safety risks in pediatric and newborn care in all health care settings, emphasizing the specific needs of children, families and caregivers.
- Mobilize governments, health care organizations, professional bodies and civil society to implement sustainable strategies for safer care for newborns and children, as part of broader patient safety and quality initiatives.
- Empower parents, caregivers and children in patient safety by promoting education, awareness and active participation in care.
- Advocate for strengthening research on patient safety in pediatric and newborn care.
