SARAYA Receives Consumer-Oriented Management Excellence Award

SARAYA is honored to announce that we have received the Consumer-Oriented Management Excellence Award for Fiscal Year 2024, presented by the Consumer Affairs Agency.

Since 2018, the Consumer Affairs Agency has been recognizing companies that demonstrate outstanding commitment to consumer-oriented business practices by developing and providing socially useful and safe products and services, gaining consumer satisfaction and trust. This initiative aims to promote and encourage management that improves social value through co-creation and collaboration with consumers.

Consumer-oriented management is positioned as one of the pillars of business activities that are conducted with an awareness of one's own social responsibility in order to build a sustainable and desirable society and is closely related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are being addressed internationally.

Acknowledged Activities of SARAYA

This year's award acknowledges SARAYA's ongoing efforts to support sustainable palm oil production and consumption through the following activities:

  • Their Membership in the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)
  • The Sale of Yashinomi Detergent, Japan’s first RSPO-certified detergent
  • Expanding the number of products that display the RSPO-certified label, to raise consumer awareness

Beyond products, SARAYA actively engages in educational initiatives, through the “Connect Through Life School by SARAYA” project.

About Yashinomi Detergent History

Since our founding in 1952, SARAYA has been dedicated to developing products that are both people- and planet-friendly. Among them, Yashinomi Detergent, introduced in 1971, stands out as a pioneering plant-based detergent, created in response to the water pollution caused by petroleum-based detergents.

However, as global demand for food has increased, palm oil production has led to significant environmental and social challenges, particularly in Malaysia. Issues such as deforestation and habitat loss have underlined the importance of sustainable sourcing. In response, SARAYA has been actively involved in conservation efforts in Borneo since 2004, collaborating with various organizations to protect biodiversity and promote responsible palm oil production.

About the "Connect Through Life School by SARAYA" Project

The “Connect Through Life School by SARAYA” is an educational initiative providing schools across Japan (from elementary to high schools) with engaging learning materials and opportunities. Based on SARAYA’s three key pillars of hygiene, environment, and health, the platform offers:

  • Interactive video content
  • On-site educational sessions
  • Practical lessons on sustainability and well-being
  • Study tours to Borneo for students, providing firsthand insight into environmental conservation efforts linked to our products

Moving Forward

SARAYA will remain committed to sustainable business practices in collaboration with our customers and suppliers. By continuing our efforts in hygiene, environmental conservation, and health, we strive to make a meaningful impact worldwide. Together, we can create a more sustainable future.
